How It Works
Understanding the technology behind Interview Assistant's Live Audio + screenshot copilot
Operating System Level Integration
Interview Assistant runs as a native desktop application that interfaces directly with your operating system's display layer, completely separate from your web browser or interview platform.
Stays Out of Your Screen Share
Every window — command bar, live transcript, AI suggestion panel — is excluded from screen recording and screen sharing via OS Content Protection on both macOS and Windows. Useful when you're sharing your screen for a demo or pair programming session and don't want the AI panel as a visual distraction.
Live Audio + Auto-Classified Analysis
Live Audio Sessions transcribe the other side's voice locally and have Claude generate spoken answers when they pause — works for technical interviews, behavioral rounds, and meetings. Toggle auto-trigger off for quiet transcription mode. Your own voice is never captured in production builds. For visible problems, screenshots are auto-classified — coding gets full code with complexity, general questions get a direct paragraph answer.
Per-OS install notes
Things you may need to do once on your machine to get the app installed and permitted to run.
Windows Security Warning
You may encounter an "Unknown Publisher" warning. This is normal for open-source applications without paid code signing certificates.
Quick fixes:
- —Right-click .exe → Properties → Check "Unblock"
- —SmartScreen: Click "More info" → "Run anyway"
- —Add app folder to Windows Defender exclusions
macOS Security Settings
macOS requires Screen Recording permission for Live Audio + screenshot functionality. Microphone permission is not needed in production builds.
- —Grant Screen Recording permission — required for screenshots and Live Audio interviewer capture (ScreenCaptureKit)
- —Allow the app if Gatekeeper blocks it initially
- —Restart the app after granting permissions
- —Production builds don't request microphone access — your own voice is never captured during a session
Stays out of your share
When you share your screen for a demo, pair-programming session, or design review, the assistant windows are excluded from the share via OS Content Protection. Tested across the platforms below.
Zoom Configuration
Zoom's newer share path can pick up Content-Protected windows on some setups, so we recommend one of the configurations below to be safe. For Zoom compatibility, please ensure one of these configurations:
- —Use Zoom version 6.16 or an earlier release
- —OR activate "Advanced capture with window filtering" in Zoom Preferences
